What is Reiki ?

Reiki (pronounced ray kee) translates to two concepts in English. 'Rei' (or 'Ling' in Chinese) meaning soul or spirit and 'ki' or ( or 'qi' in Chinese ) meaning universal life energy.

There are two techniques for using this energy in healing (making whole). In the first, called Reiki One or 'hands on' Reiki, the Practitioner places their hands in standard positions on the Clients body to channel energy directly into the body. The second technique is called Reiki Two or 'absent healing'. It involves the use of a photograph of the Client and a pillow which is used as a proxy for the body.

Reiki is a spiritual practice, based on the premise that each of us is a spirit or soul inhabiting a body. Because the body is the vehicle we use to travel on our life journey, the body is where we see the 'wear and tear' or 'dis-ease' that our state of mind or decisions create. When we feel 'dis-ease' it is usually a sign that we need to change. Reiki empowers that change.

Reiki can be used in this way to heal what is not whole. It can also be used in an active way to communicate with your own Higher Self or Spirit, through Reiki Two, to understand the life issues you are dealing with. In this way you can take responsibility for changing as your next step becomes available to you. This allows you to experience life and change in a more positive and graceful manner, rather than as a series of difficulties which force you to change.
